In 1995, freelance writer Catherine Wheelwright Ockey established Writeline Literary Services, offering her expertise to other writers in the form of editing, proofreading and book reviewing. In 1997, her husband, Randl Ockey, quit his job as a library administrator to join the business as a full-time indexer. In 2001, the name of the business changed to Wheelwright Publishing Services, to better reflect the services offered to both individuals and other businesses in the field of publishing. Catherine holds a B.A. degree in English and history, and Randl earned a B.A. degree in humanities and English, as well as a Masters degree in library science. Both Randl and Catherine have extensive experience in the book business through retail and wholesale sales, libraries and book production. Currently we offer the following services:
Indexing: Great information is of little value if no one can find it. As a professional librarian for many years and the author of over 400 indexes, Randl knows how to connect readers to the information they’re seeking. His specialties are travel and outdoor recreation guides, but along the way he’s indexed everything from cookbooks to biographies to art history.
Editing and Proofreading: Nothing can spoil the effect of a fascinating story faster than poor grammar and sentence structure or spelling and punctuation errors. We can help you fine tune your manuscript before you send it out to publishers, colleagues or over the Internet. Regardless of how many times you have gone over it yourself, the objective eye of an experienced editor can pick up little things that may have gone unnoticed. We focus on the details so you don’t have to.
Reading Services/Manuscript and Book Review: Whether you are an individual author with a completed manuscript or a publisher who needs help getting through your slush pile, we can read and evaluate the content of the material and produce a written review based on your specifications.
Business and Personal Correspondence: Though many businesses and individuals now rely principally on email for written communication, there are times when a well-constructed letter is the most efficient and effective way to state your opinion or get the desired action from others. We can help you get the attention of someone in a government agency or business conglomerate with a letter that states your ideas clearly and concisely.
Research and Fact Checking: As part of our expansion into western U.S. family history, we now offer research services and fact checking for individuals and publishers. Please see our Western U.S. Family History page to find out how we can help you find your family stories and “get the facts straight.”
Fees: Please contact us for a personal quote.
